It was articles like the links below, that I stumbled across nearly 4 years ago that inspired me to start making candles. I had been burning paraffin tealights and highly scented paraffin pillars since I was a teenager without realising what chemicals I was subjecting myself to... as well as the visitors to the spaces where I was burning these candles.
I will be updating this page with more researched realisations concerning the fragrances that we find in our makeup, room deodorisers, scented candles, reed diffusers, incense, cleaning products and the list goes on... in the meantime, this article will wake you up from those very cleaver marketed fragranced items...
Unlike the majority of the candles on the
market, we DO NOT add any of the following ingredients to our
candles for obvious reasons:
PETROCHEMICALS - A by-product of
the petroleum refining processes i.e.
paraffin wax
FRAGRANCE OILS - A synthetic
chemical
scent manufactured to copy a scent of a plant. The oil manufactured
clearly has no
therapeutic
benefit unlike a pure essential oil. See Scents Make no Sense
STEARIC
ACID A by-product from the meatpacking industry
used to harden soft
waxes i.e. soy wax and parrafin wax
MOULD RELEASE
SPRAYS, UV INHIBITORS, HOT GLUE - more toxic
substances to help candles slide out of moulds, colours to stop fading
and an adhesive to keep the wick in the centre of a tealight.
LEAD OR ZINC CORED WICKS metallic
cores used
by some candle companies to keep
the wick upright so it doesn't fall into the pool of wax when burning.
